VINSANTO MIKRA THIRA | 8 Years Old
VINSANTO MIKRA THIRA is the winery’s first dessert wine — a creation shaped slowly and patiently over time. After eight years of aging in French oak barrels, it reveals the most concentrated and radiant expression of Santorini: the energy of the volcano, the power of the Aegean, and the tradition of a place that has long mastered the art of producing wines of great endurance and character.
The story of Vinsanto
Vinsanto is a living treasure of Santorini’s winemaking heritage. It was the wine that traveled as far as Russia and across the Mediterranean, earning a reputation for its quality and distinctive character. From the 18th century to the present day, it remains perhaps the most recognizable and emblematic dessert wine tradition of Greece. It is produced from sun-dried grapes, a technique that gives the wine its signature concentration and remarkable longevity.
The vineyard and production
To create VINSANTO MIKRA THIRA, old, own-rooted Assyrtiko (95%) and Aidani (5%) vines were used, cultivated in Santorini’s unique volcanic soil of pumice, ash, and siliceous rock. The grapes are naturally sun-dried for 7–10 days to intensify their aromas and flavors, followed by a slow fermentation. The wine is then left to age for eight years in 225-liter oak barrels. Production is rare and limited — only 1,000 bottles.
Character & Taste
The wine has a deep amber color and remarkable complexity. On the nose, aromas of sweet spices, ripe and dried fruits, honey, and caramel gradually emerge. On the palate, it is velvety, rich, and well-balanced, with the characteristic acidity of Assyrtiko perfectly offsetting the natural sweetness of this dessert wine. The finish is long and silky, with lingering notes of nuts, honey, and spices.
VINSANTO MIKRA THIRA is our own interpretation of a historic wine style, crafted with respect for Santorini’s tradition and with the aim of expressing the island in a pure, contemporary, and refined way.
Due to its extremely limited production, it is available exclusively in Τherassia and Santorini.
